Briars Creek Marshlands and Hummocks

The total area of the marsh properties at Briar’s Creek is 138 acres.  The Kiawah Conservancy holds a conservation easement (April 2007) on these properties that preserves them in a natural state in perpetuity.  Both properties are owned by Briar’s Creek Golf LLC.

Within the marsh properties there are several hummock islands of various sizes.  One hummock is relatively large (about half the size of Beck Island) and likely provides habitat for many wildlife species including deer, raccoons, and numerous birds (possibly including raptors).  Trees that dominate this island include loblolly pines and cabbage palmettos.  Through the preservation of these properties, these unique islands are protected and a scenic viewshed along the Kiawah River remains undisturbed.
