25 Arrowhead Hall
The property at 25 Arrowhead Hall is located at the end of Arrowhead Hall, near the intersection of Surfsong Rd and Governor’s Dr. It is adjacent to Governor’s Dr and a bicycle path on its northern side, a small pond on its western edge and a developed lot with a home to its east. There is a narrow buffer strip between the pond and the property that runs north-south between Governor’s Dr and Arrowhead Hall. This strip is cleared and void of any significant vegetation. The lot displays moderate to dense canopy cover and moderate vegetation density in the understory. The canopy is dominated by live oaks, laurel oaks, loblolly pines, and cabbage palmettos. The understory is dense along the northern and southern edges of the property, with some clearing and open space in the lot’s interior. There are also a few stumps in the understory, as well as considerable leaf litter and debris. Vegetation in the understory is comprised of wax myrtle, yaupon holly, red bay and a number of vines. In the center of the property there is an area of dead trees and debris. The lot is unique, as it displays exceptional maritime forest habitat and a varying degree of vegetation density in the understory – potentially providing habitat for a number of wildlife species. The pond adjacent to the lot also makes it unique. To the southwest (across the street) is an undeveloped home site (18 Arrowhead Hall). Shane Roberts’ research indicates that a bobcat has been located in this lot in 2004. This would imply the possibility of bobcats using 25 Arrowhead Hall and its adjacent buffer strip as a potential corridor. Also, an alligator nest was located on the eastern end of the pond close to the property in July 2001.
This property was preserved by the Kiawah Conservancy in February 2005.
